Welcome to the Reading Coach's message board. As the Literacy Ambassador, I encourage your comments and questions about helping struggling readers, through Education World's monthly column, The Reading Coach. The National Center for Educational Statistics' newest report indicates we're closing the gap and it's because of great teachers like you are putting research-based ideas into practice in your classrooms. Hope to hear from you soon!

HI Cathy!
Great article! Thanks for sharing it. As I read it, I thought about my students last year. The flexible grouping really makes the classroom feel like a family, rather than segmented groups. As a matter of fact, my groups (kdg.) were different just during the language arts time. The first reading rotation had groups, then the second one in the same day had different children in the groups. Fluid grouping encourages children to value each other's different learning styles, and helps them understand how to be flexible in their daily lives (more adults certainly could have used this during their school careers).
